On 8 April 2021, at the age of 51, Thelma Calhoun, 2018-2019 Past President of Vocalizers Toastmasters Club, Birmingham, Alabama passed away at University of Alabama Hospital Birmingham, AL, after a long illness.  Thelma was an inspirational Toastmaster and leader.

Thelma always strived for perfection and was eager to learn the Toastmaster way of having an effective club that achieved the goals established.  She was a hard worker and willing to help wherever needed whether at the Club, Area, Division or District level to ensure the overall success of the District was met.   She dedicated numerous hours to improving herself and the performance of her club.  Her smile was infectious, and she had a warm welcoming spirit.

She was a lover of music and Tai Chi. Thelma once said, “being a member of Toastmasters has forced me to move out of my comfort zone and become a better speaker and leader”. 

She will be sorely missed by all who knew her. Rest in peace Thelma.

Thelma was a very sweet lady who could light up a room with her smile. She devoted a great deal of time to Toastmasters and to being president of the Vocalizers chapter. Thelma did her best to make each of our meetings special and she always made members feel appreciated. She will be greatly missed.
