Relevant work experience and how it relates to Toastmasters and your role as a District leader:
I work with LSU Office of Global Engagement and have been here for 25 years first as Assistant Director, then Associate and now Director. I manage and oversee immigration services, and I design cultural and educational programs. I read, interpret, and apply immigration regulations and policy; thus, I have strong analytical skills. I have designed numerous information sessions and workshops, a skill that is necessary for the Toastmaster role. Moreover, I work on teams often and collaborate with campus partners and colleagues in the field.
What experience do you have in strategic planning?
As head of a unit at LSU, I’m responsible for setting the vision and goals for the unit.
What experience do you have in the area of finance?
Very little. My unit only recently (July 1 2025) started charging fees for immigration services; so, I’m learning to manage the finances.
What experience do you have in developing procedures?
I create procedures and checklists to facilitate processes all the time at my job.
What lessons did you learn from previous leadership positions?
Be member centered and keep them engaged with programs such as new member orientations, mentorship, etc
It takes a village to run a successful program; get members involved, not just officers; ask for help.
Why do you want to serve as a District leader?
I have benefited immensely from Toastmasters, programs. I want to give back. Participation will also enhance my skills..
In your opinion, what are the District mission’s major objectives and how would you work to achieve them?
To build new clubs, support existing clubs so they can excel. I will be a resource for Area Directors in their efforts to support clubs.
Additional information about yourself:
Working as a volunteer in leadership roles is not new to me. I have held many leadership volunteer positions in my professional associations, including Academy Coach and Trainer Corps Chair. I have also served on the board of the Fulbright Association, Louisiana Chapter; I was also Director of Advocacy for the Chapter; and I’m the incoming President. Those who have worked with me know that I’m both people and task oriented.
