Organizational Announcement from Marcia McIntyre

I am pleased to announce that Garry Speights (pictured left) will join the Gas Applications organization as IT Supervisor, Analysts for the Customer Applications team effective March 6, 2021.  In this role, Garry will have overall responsibility for leading business systems analysts in support of Customer Applications technology projects, and he will serve as the supervisory level interface across functions within Gas Technology Solutions.  As part of the Technology Organization under Southern Company Services, he will report to Marcia McIntyre, IT Manager of Customer Applications.  Garry’s hiring is a result of our Workforce Transformation Program to insource critical technology positions and reduce organizational risks, dependences, and rising costs on external contractors in key and strategic roles.

Garry comes to us with over 20 years of experience at Southern Company in both technology and business unit roles. Most recently, he served as a Compliance Analyst in the Energy Management Systems (EMS) organization. In this role, he provided support and leadership for the integration of compliance processes to ensure compliance with NERC CIP regulatory requirements, Cyber Security and EMS internal controls for systems critical to the reliable operations of our bulk electric system.  Prior to joining EMS, Garry progressed through tiers of increasing responsibilities serving as IT Help Desk Client Services Analyst, Information Systems Analyst, a Systems Administrator, and a Quality Assurance Analyst within the Generation IT and the Application Services organizations.

Garry currently serves as Vice President of Public Relations in the Toastmasters International organization. He is a member of the American Association of Blacks in Energy (AABE) and a former board member of Alabama Power’s SoTech organization and Southern Company Operations Inclusion Action Team.

Garry earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Information Systems from Herzing University and a Master of Information Systems Management degree from the Keller Graduate School of Management at DeVry University. He is a Microsoft Certified Professional, Certified Software Tester and holds an ITIL Foundation Certificate in IT Service Management.

Garry is originally from Alabama and currently resides there with his wife, Pamela and their 3 children – Caleb (17), Kameron (6) and Gabriella (4)
